Go-to dinner takeout when swinging by LA. Spicy chicken wings and soondae bokum with extra moo and salad on the side will hit the spot. Hope it'll open back up soon!

I have, as is my forte, tried them again because I really loved and still live them. It was fantastic, crispy, spicy, sweet, HOT, complex and succulent. They are back, The Wings are Back at The Top!

Yelp Reviews: Quarantine Edition #23 The best Korean fried chicken in LA, now with even more local flavor! For years OB Bear has been my late night guilty pleasure on long drives from Koreatown down to OC. After a busy work day in LA, I would often place an order of chicken wings to go, with sauce on the side. Unable to predict the strange and erratic flows of normal traffic on the 10, 5, and 405, even at night, the $22 (including tax and tip) were well spent as I noshed on fried wings while I sat waiting for car crashes, road closures, and midnight freeway construction to clear up. My first time back at the beloved OB Bear in months, I was sad to see the typical crowd of Dodgers fans were absent, but became elated when I found out they had outdoor dining options! Besides 2 tables set out in front by the entrance, they have 7-8 tables in the back with partitions for your dining safety and pleasure. When your name is up, the manager or waiter leads you to a back exit that winds into what looks like a street alley... soon you find yourself on what looks like an alley in Seoul or a charming Korean movie set. Sure it's a little grimey and you may have some unexpected guests, but this is the most fun dining experience I've had during the entire Quarantime! As I mentioned before, my usual order is fried chicken wings on the go, but this time we ordered a Whole Fried Chicken, a Large Seafood Pancake, and a pitcher of Sapporo draft. The whole fried chicken here is done tongdak-style, with the traditional "fried paper skin" on juicy meat. I still think the fried chicken wings, which has a crunchier batter, is my fave but if you like places like The Prince for fried chicken in Koreatown this joint is no slouch. The real standout of the meal for me was the Seafood Pajeon, the large seafood pancake that I always saw people ordering but never ordered myself. My goodness, I don't know what the small looks like but the large pancake we ordered ended up being TWO pancakes stacked on top of each other! The pajeon is thick but crispy on the outside, full of leek and seafood, and honestly a meal in and of itself. The next time I'm here with a group I'm DEFINITELY ordering this again! Word to the wise: if you're debating between large and small options, which apply for a lot of the popular items on the menu, just spring for the large. Most of the time it's just a few bucks more and the food is so good here, trust me, you won't mind taking home leftovers. As far as "anju" Korean bar food experiences go, OB Bear's outdoor dining pojangmacha aka "pocha" experience really takes you across the Pacific and makes you feel like you're in Korea itself... a fine choice of staycationing during these strange, fire-filled pandemic days.

OB Bear is one of my favorite Korean pubs in Ktown and the atmosphere (pre-covid ot course) is fun and rowdy and it's just a great place to eat and drink with friends. But atmosphere aside, the food here is sooooo good and it's still makes for a great to order to go for any gathering. Take-out order during covid (this was : * 2x fried chicken, sauce on the side = (5/5) * 1x seafood pancake = (5/5) * 1x spicy octopus (I love to order a double side of noodles on the side and mix it together... trust me) = (5/5) * 1x green onion salad = (5/5) * kimchi tofu = (3/5) This order was for 6 people but we also had some other food. However, there were still leftovers! 2x of chicken wings is NECESSARY for more than 3-4 people. 1x order of the seafood pancake is HUGE! A single order is enough for 10 people, I swear. The spicy octopus is yummy and spicy and has octopus and veggies and some toppoki but getting it with the noodles on the side not only stretches the dish to feed more people but also helps your stomach digest all that spicy sauce a little easier. Green onion salad is basic and delicious. This was the first time we ordered the tofu kimchi for a vegetarian in our group and I thought it was just okay (it's just a big container of kimchi with a plain block of firm tofu on the side).. it's not bad it's just not something I would crave from here. Final thought: Even though I love the chicken here, the seafood pancake is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE (it's also just as good if not better the next day reheated in a frying pan with a little oil....... yummm!)
